File with .AVR extension contains single- or dual-channel audio data supporting variable sample size of 8 or 16 bits. File header is 128 bits in size and is followed by MIDI data.

AVR file format was designed by Audio Visual Research for Atari ST family of computers. It was also used by older Mac computers. Now rarely used, although programs that can convert those files into different format do exist.
