D01 is a partial disc image file used by virtual image creator VirtualDrive Pro. D01 extension is used when created image is too large for D00 part to be able to store all the data.

VCD software that supported partial image files was released in 1995 and since gained quite a large popularity. The software supports up to 23 virtual drives simultaneously.
