The extension .DXF belongs to the files of the type drawing exchange format files. These are the files that store graphical data in a digital format and often the output formats of Computer Aided drawing tools. The file is used mostly for the vector image files that are rendered using the Autodesk Software tools.

The file structure is based on the ASCII format and thus has a better compatibility than the native Autodesk file types. As a result of this, the file structure is quickly becoming a universal standard for the 2D / 3D vector graphics apart from the other formats of Autodesk.
