E57 is a file format used for storing and exchanging data of scanned 3D objects. Files of this type store 3D images. Single E57 file beside image data also contains a metadata section in XML format.

Many 3D laser scanning devices utilize E57 open format developed by ASTM E57 for storing scan data for various 3D objects captured with 3D scannings systems.
