META4 is a generic file format for storing data. It is supported by many download managers. META4 files store data in text format and can be edited using any text editor or word processor.

META4 files contain information about locations of internet resources or downloaded files. META4 format uses XML syntax. META4 (Metalink 4.0) files are not backward compatible with Metalink 3.0.
