MXDL is a file extension native to hybrid web browser called Maxthon, which is based on Trident engine. In 2016 researchers discovered that Maxthon behaves not unlike a spying software by sharing users’ data without permission.

MXDL files are used by the browser to store temporary download data. After download in complete, the browser automatically changes downloaded file’s extension to the original one.
