NOTEBOOK format is the successor to XBK format used for storing notes created by SMART Notebook software. NOTEBOOK files can be viewed using software installed on user’s computer disk (e.g. Notebook Express) or remotely via online service offered by the developer.

NOTEBOOK document files are popular among teachers as means of sharing knowledge with their students. Digital notes with text and diagrams can be used as support material during lessons. The software has been actively developed for more than 20 years and was installed by more than 2.5 million users.
