File with a .POD extension contains a text documentation of Perl source code. POD documentation is stored with the basic syntax preserved, thanks to which, it can be easily processed into form of source code.

POD files are used to create documentation of modules written in Pearl and shared publicly, and also to create a Perl manual known as the Perl manpages. POD documentation – Plain Old Documentation in the Perl language, can be also stored in a separate POD file or directly in the source code files.
