File with a .PSD extension contains an image stored in Adobe Photoshop’s native file format. Data contained in PSD files concern file’s distinctive features, full image layers data, data on applied masks and fitting, remarks or key words. This file format supports many colour pallets, for instance grey scale, RGB, CMYK, mono and dichromatic colours, colour indexes and multi-channel colours. PSD files can be exported to more common file formats, like PNG, JPEG or GIF. This file format is proprietary, however, it can be read with different programs, such as Apple Preview for Mac OS or Windows Explorer, Windows Photo Viewer, Windows Media, provided proper codecs are installed.
