Files with the .SID extension contain lossless compressed images, usually used to transmit large imagery data through GIS (Geographical Information Systems).

SID files are compressed using a special type of compression called MrSID, which stands for Multi-Resolution Seamless Image Database and was created by LizardTech for compression of large images into the form of a lossless multi-resolution image database.
