File with .VIR extension contains a file marked by an antivirus software as infected with a virus. The extension is usually added on the end of the original name, in order to prevent its opening and spreading of the infection.
VIR files are utilised by different types of software, for instance, the Avira AntiVir or the popular Norton Antivirus by Symantec. The VIR extension usually can be deleted manually and the file can be opened, however, it is not advised – it is better to leave marked files under a quarantine.
