XL is an alternative file extension used by Microsoft Office tool Excel. XL file stores a spreadsheet document, similar to an XLS file. It can contain various data organized in rows and columns.

XL documents can be exported to CSV format and then opened with some other office productivity tools. XLS is the preferred extension for Excel documents.
