Files with the .CRTX extension contain chart template data, such as information about the text and visual attributes of a layout. They are used for formatting multiple charts in the same way using a template.

Template files are used within Microsoft Office Suite apps, versions 2007 and newer. One can also create and save new templates based on existing charts. To apply a template, one must use the context menu of the given chart – namely change the chart type.
