Files with the .DXR extension contain movies or animations that cannot be edited. It is similar to a DIR file, but the latter is editable.

DXR files are created using the Macromedia Director software, mainly for distribution of Director films to users who will not need to edit them. The Macromedia Director software project was taken over by Adobe in 2005, and in 2017 the company announced that they will end the support for the application.
