The file extension .EMZ stands for windows compressed enhanced metafile which is a primitive type of image file designed in the early 90’s to store digital data. The file type is versatile and was primarily used to store both vector as well as raster graphics.
The file structure is made in such a way that the digital data to be stored is first compressed using a modified version of the popular GZIP file compression algorithm. This allows the .EMZ files to store more data yet occupy less space on the disk. Currently their use is primarily limited to Microsoft applications.
