HPGL is a file format developed by Hewlett-Packard as means of communicating with plotter printers manufactured by said company. HPGL (oiginally HP-GL) is also the name of a programming language used for controlling printers created in 1977 and first used with HP-8972 plotter.
HPGL files store linear printing instructions for plotters. HPGL files also have uses in CAD-related applications and many CAD programs offer support for HPGL files. HPGL files can be created by exporting vector images created using image editing software.
