JAVA is a format created by Sun Microsystems under the direction of James Gosling. The format is now owned and further developed by Oracle. JAVA file contains source code writen in programming language of the same name.

Java is a multi-platform language, and Java files can be compiled and opened on many various operating systems. Source code written in Java is architecture- and software-independent, and the code is executed by Java virtual machine.
