The LEX extension is assigned to files that are used by various applications developed by Adobe Systems Incorporated. LEX files are files that are used to store data used by mechanisms to check the spelling of documents. It is a type of dictionary with the correct grammar, spelling and stylistics of the language.

LEX lexical data files are supported and created by a tool developed by Adobe called Linguistic Library. Files of this type are also used by the Microsoft Office suite.
