The .MAP extension may refer to many file types depending on the software that was used to pack the data into the .MAP file. Generally all the .MAP files are some type of Geographical Map files used to store the Map data and co-ordinates pertaining to the packaging software used to create the MAP file.

The file structure of the MAP files is designed in such a way that they are stored as simple text files that contain the co-ordinate data of different objects. This location data is stored in the form of offset values from a particular reference point.
