MDS file extension is used by software for recording multimedia on CD and DVD discs. Single MDS files contains information describing data stored in MDF disc image file.

MDS files store such information as recording standard used, image name, and other more detailed information about the data. MDS files are used for loading image data before recording. MDS format is commonly used by such disc burning tools as Alcohol 120% or DAEMON Tools.
