File with a .MP extension contains a non-commerce 3D project, marked with a Maya Personal Learning Edition (PLE) software watermark. Such files can be opened only in the PLE version of the software, they cannot be operated with the commercial version.

The Maya software series are used for 3D modelling. The commercial version stores a file in a similar format, with .MA extension, with no watermarks.
