Files with .ODEX extension are used by devices that run Android, an operating system developed by Google. The purpose of ODEX files is to optimize device performance by speeding up APK data loading processes.

ODEX files only work on the device on which they were created. Previous version of ODEX file format, designated DEX, did not have this limitation. ODEX files are managed by Dalvik virtual machine.
