SGI is the extension given to files that are used to store raster images. This format was developed by Silicon Graphics and was used by the company's graphic workstations. SGI files are files that can store both black and white, grayscale and color images. Depending on the type of graphics, 8 to 24 bits of memory were reserved for one image pixel.
Currently, SGI is a rarely used format and is considered obsolete.
