What is a APPX file?
Files with the .APPX extension contain the Windows application suite for Windows 8 and above, designed for use in the Windows Store. Software contained in APPX files is packed by programmers developing system apps using software from the Visual Studio family – their maximum size is limited to 2GB.

How to associate the file with an installed software?
If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.APPX) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected APPX file. From the drop-down menu select "Choose default program", then click "Browse" and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK.
