The .JSON file extension refers to JavaScript Object Notation File types also commonly referred to as JSON file types. Json files, when first introduced revolutionized the programming paradigm as earlier data exchange was only possible using serial input and output. Json provides an alternative approach to data access.
Json file structure is designed in such a way that it allows the transfer of data in a human readable format. It uses the concept of key-value pairing for data structure. It is also popular because it is language independent. Thus JSON is a widely popular data exchange method used in Javascript.
JSON file extension is used by JavaScript Object Notation files, which are used for sending structured data over networks. JSON file stores simple data structures that can encode any type of information. Data is stored in human-readable text format.
JSON format is used mainly or exchanging data, usually between servers and web apps. JSON files are seldom present on local disk, although some applications use this format. Google+, for example, saves user profile data as JSON file, and Mozilla Firefox uses this format to save bookmarks.
Introduction of JSON format in a sense changed industry standards in programming, where data exchanging methods mostly relied on input-output procedures. JSON files are lightweight and store data objects as attribut-value pairs in human-readable text format.
Originally JSON format was used JavaScript programming language, but since 2017 many application programming interfaces (API) support this format. Today, JSON is considered a language independent format and is still gaining in popularity. In fact, it is becoming so popular that many consider it a viable alternative to XML standard. JSON format is mostly used by AJAX-based web apps.
If you cannot open the JSON file on your computer - there may be several reasons. The first and most important reason (the most common) is the lack of a suitable software that supports JSON among those that are installed on your device.
A very simple way to solve this problem is to find and download the appropriate application. The first part of the task has already been done – the software supporting the JSON file can be found in the table. Now just download and install the appropriate application.
The inability to open and operate the JSON file does not necessarily mean that you do not have an appropriate software installed on your computer. There may be other problems that also block our ability to operate the JavaScript Object Notation Format file. Below is a list of possible problems.
If you are sure that all of these reasons do not exist in your case (or have already been eliminated), the JSON file should operate with your programs without any problem. If the problem with the JSON file has not been solved, it may be due to the fact that in this case there is also another rare problem with the JSON file. In this case, the only you can do is to ask for assistance of a professional staff.

If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.JSON) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected JSON file. From the drop-down menu select "Choose default program", then click "Browse" and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK. The second and more difficult to do is associate the JSON file extension to the corresponding software in the Windows Registry.
Many files contain only simple text data. It is possible that while opening unknown files (e.g. JSON) with a simple text editor like Windows Notepad will allow us to see some of the data encoded in the file. This method allows you to preview the contents of many files, but probably not in such a structure as a program dedicated to support them.
