What is a REM file?
File with a .REM extension contains a coded file of different content (image or music), stored by a Blackberry phone. The extension indicates coding of the content of a file and is often comprised of a part defining the type of data, for instance - .JPG, and the .REM extension after it.
REM files can be copied on a computer with a specific BlackBerry RIM software, although they cannot be opened directly with Mac OS or Windows. The multimedia files coding functionality is available in the advanced menu of the phone; after turning it off, they can be copied onto a PC and opened like a standard file. How to associate the file with an installed software?
If you want to associate a file with a new program (e.g. my-file.REM) you have two ways to do it. The first and the easiest one is to right-click on the selected REM file. From the drop-down menu select "Choose default program", then click "Browse" and find the desired program. The whole operation must be confirmed by clicking OK. The second and more difficult to do is associate the REM file extension to the corresponding software in the Windows Registry.
Is there one way to open unknown files?
Many files contain only simple text data. It is possible that while opening unknown files (e.g. REM) with a simple text editor like Windows Notepad will allow us to see some of the data encoded in the file.
