RLD is a filename extension associated with Norton Commander file manager. Norton Commander was developed for MS-DOS and was discontinued with the debut of Microsoft Windows 95.
RLD files were th default file format used by version 5.0 of Norton Commander. RLD files were employed by the program for its internal processes. The last versions of Norton Commander was released in July 1998. Its two-panel view interface was a substantial innovation, implemented in various file managers that came after it.
