W01 files are used by SY 85 and 99 series of Yamaha music syntethizers. W01 is an audio sample file for given instrument.
W01 files are also supported by Yamaha TX16W sampler. Audio samples stored in W01 can be used by dedicated instruments. W01 can be created by converting WAV files using a dedicated tool Awave.
