File with a .DAE extension contains a 3D image stored in a format based on the XML COLLADA – COLLAborative Design Activity. Such files are utilised for the purpose of inter-platform exchange of digital data, they are used by many different programs.

The COLLADA format was originally designed by SONY but currently Autodesk is its owner, and it is maintained and supported by Autodesk, Sony and the Khronos Group.
