The DVDR extension is given to files related to various Roxio optical media utilities. DVDRs are files used to store DVD images most commonly created with Roxio Toast. Images of this type can be mounted as virtual disks in Apple operating systems. In most cases, this is done through DiskImageMounter, which comes preinstalled with Mac OS X.

Today, DVDR images are rare and the format is considered obsolete.
