DZ is a archive format native to Dzip tools. Dzip is a command line tool available only for older 32-bit Windows versions, namely 95 and XP.

DZ file format offered fast compression and decompression times and was very efficent resource-wise. DZ archive file creation process didn’t involve using temporary files or folders. DZ format was developed solely for compressing demos of Quake computer game. Dzip tool is very light and can be distributed using standard floppy disks.
