File with a .JXR extension contains an image compressed in the JPEG XR format, used to store images of a high resolution in 48 bit RGB colour. Compression can be lossy or lossless.
JXR format was originally developed by Microsoft and used in Windows Media software. It enables to achieve better colour precision and more effective compression than in case of the standard JPEG files. It is utilised in professional image editing.
