File with an .ODB extension contains a relational database in the compressed ZIP format, stored according to the OpenDocument standard. Structure of such database is composed of XML files containing settings, a manifesto and context data, and also the catalogue itself with detailed databases. In this catalogue, there are data files containing present state of the data within the databases, properties describing the database, scripts with data tables definitions and the last coherent version of the database, stored in a backup file and log files which store changes occurred within the database in specified time.
ODB files are created and utilised by the open source Apache OpenOffice Base software – OOBase. They enable creating and managing relational data bases, which contain data in a specified structure of tables and records. In order to display the structure of an ODB file, its extension can be changed into ZIP and unpacked with any decompression tool. The standard score of ODF documents, used in the ODB database files is based on XML. It was created by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information consortium (OASIS), in order to standardise and enable better exchange of office applications’ files.
