PEF file extension is used for uncompressed RAW images created using Pentax digital and reflex cameras. The file stores image imformation exactly how it was captured by camera sensors, with no compression or color adjustments.

PEF format evolved as newer Pentax cameras were introduced. PEF file can be viewed in various desktop or mobile programs given the software supports RAW profile for PEF format.
