Files with the .SFC extension contain Super Nintendo game ROM data in the original format used by the consoles – namely Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems, as well as their emulation systems. SFC files, like SMC files, are usually used by emulators, such as ZSNES and Snes9x.

The name of the extension comes from the phrase "Super Famicon", which is the term for the Super Nintendo version used in Asia and Japan – this is also where the extension is more popular. Western games are usually saved using the SMC extension – hence, SFC has become characteristic of South Asian and Japanese SNES games.
