FP files are written using assembler syntax and store 3D graphics data. FP files describe properties for pixels in 3D model space. FP files are fully editable and used during rendering process.

FP extension is only used by software that utilizes OpenGL technology. Because tha data is sotred in plain text format, it can be edited using any text editor; however, due to being written in machine language, editing FP files can prove to be a challenge to novice programmers.
