File with a .JPF extension contains an image which can be compressed in a lossy or a lossless form, along with metadata and transparency support. The more often used extensions are the JP2 and JPX.
The JPEG2000 format, in which JPF files are stored, is the successor of JPEG, although it has not been adopted in a wide range. For instance, it is used by QuickTime Player (up to 7th version) and Adobe Photoshop, provided the proper plugin installed.
