The KAP extension is characteristic for files that are related to the GPS navigation software tools released by the Maptech company. KAP are files used to store maps (mostly nautical). Sometimes KAP files are grouped together in larger numbers and as a result BSB files are created. Data contained in KAP files can be in plain text format and can be bitmap images.

KAP files have often been associated with a marine navigation application called Chart Navigator Pro. Currently, these solutions are considered obsolete.
