File with a .PCAPNG extension contains data on packets of data intercepted from a network and stored in the PCAP Next Generation format. This format enables storing of data blocks, which can be utilised to provide a possibility to recreate the intercepted packets.

PCAPNG files are used by the Wireshark packets tracing software, since the 1.8 version. Previously, the PCAP (Packet CAPture) format was utilised.
