PIX is the file extension used to store bitmap graphics images. The data in such a file is organized in an array of points that make up the image. Their number tells about the resolution of the image. Low-resolution bitmap images are less prone to scaling (loss of quality). This format has been used by many programs for editing and viewing graphics.
Currently, such files are rare and the format is considered obsolete.
