ASF (Advanced Systems Format) is a file format developed by Microsoft for streaming multimedia contents over the internet. ASF is a proprietary audio-video container format. Besides audio and video data, ASF file contain metadata such as title, author, date, genre, or copyright information.

ASF is compatible with any codec and supports compression. ASF is thus a standard specification. ASF files can contain MWMA- and WMV-encoded multimedia data.
