EMC file is an encrypted (with DES algorithm) document that can be decrypted and viewed using Striata Reader software. EMC files are commonly used by banks and other organizations that prioritize data confidentiality.

DES encryption was broken for the first time in 1997, and the fact announced to public 96 days later. DES algotithm uesd in EMC files is a modified version of the original algorithm. It offers several additional features, on of which requires checking 2768 encryption keys to breaking.
