Files with the MP2 extension are an older audio format whose data is encoded with MPEG-1. Data in such a file is compressed with MPEG-1 Audio Layer-2. It is a lossy compression format. Audio compression in such a file cuts a frequency band that is not audible by humans. It allows you to use a smaller disk space than the MP3 format and with better sound quality. Sampling can be done at 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz at bit rates up to 320 kbps.
MP2 are files that are supported by many media players.
