OGG file format is used for storage of compressed audio data, usually with Ogg Vorbis codec, although many more codecs can be used i.a Squish, OggPCM, FLAC and Speex for narrowband human speech data storage. Each OGG file contains metadata such as author and track information. OGG file format is a container type file which can contain multiple audio tracks or other type of data, in which case the file must be saved in appropriate data format.
OGG files utilize open, patent-free audio compression format introduced by Xiph.org. OGG files offer superior audio quality compared to MP3 file of the same size. OGG format is widely supported by music and multimedia players available on the market.
