Files with the .WEBLOC extension contain a URL address for a web page, and is unique to the Safari web browser in the Mac OS X operating system. As such, WEBLOC files are shortcuts to websites – they are the equivalent of URL files, found in other systems.
To create WEBLOC files in Mac OS X, one must drag the website icon from the address bar in the browser onto the desktop or a catalog. Websites referred to by files can be opened by other web browsers, and their addresses can be displayed by opening the file using a text editor.
