Files with the .BKP extension contain a file backup. It is a general extension used by many different programs for different file types. BKP files are usually created automatically to prevent damage or loss of important data.

Often the .BKP extension is attached to the original full file name and deleting it will open the file normally. These days, the alternative BAK extension is, however, used more frequently for backups.
