AIF is an audio format used by Apple's hardware and software platforms. The digital audio material stored in this file is uncompressed (PCM) and the data recording form used is Big endian. The AIF format can be used to store high-quality samples generated at different sampling rates and other audio data.

Most often, the AIF format is associated with Macintosh computers. Files of this type were also broadcast with AIFF and AIFC extensions.
