Files with AVG extension are associated with AVG antivirus software. AVG files were used by earlier version of the software and are now officially obsolete (yet support for this format may be reinstated in future versions).

The main purpose of AVG files was to supply updated virus databases to AVG antivirus. Updated AVG files are regularly delivered to AVG antivirus clients over the internet as a part of update service.
