BOM files are used in Mac OS X system update process. BOM file stores information about operations that need to be performed on the files during system update, such as informations regarding removal or installation of a particular file. BOM file also holds file access policy information and can be used in process of file access policy recovery.
BOM files are generated during installation from PKG files. Created BOM files are saved by default in /Library/Receipts/boms folder.
