Files with the .CAP extension contain data captured by data transmission pack tracing programs. The data is in raw form, meaning exactly the same form it was captured in.

The files are often referred to as trace files or bone files. Saving the captured packs using the CAP format can be done by many types of apps, called sniffers. These programs then analyze the captured data as requested by the user, applying appropriate filtration and processing.
